  • 4 Fresh cod or haddock fillets

  • 200g Plain flour

  • 1 tsp Baking powder

  • 250ml Cold British ale or sparkling water

  • 4 Large Russet or Maris Piper potatoes, cut into chips

  • Oil for deep frying

  • Malt vinegar & sea salt

How to Make Classic Crispy Fish & Chips

1. Step 1

Whisk flour, baking powder, and cold beer together into a smooth batter.

2. Step 2

Par-fry chips at 160°C for 5 minutes, then drain.

3. Step 3

Dust fish fillets in flour, dip in beer batter, and deep fry at 190°C for 6-8 minutes until golden.

4. Step 4

Refry chips at 190°C for 3 minutes until extra crispy.
