Smoothies

A good smoothie should be quick to make but still have enough flavour and texture to feel satisfying. Here you’ll find fruit-based smoothie recipes and thick smoothie bowls suited to breakfast, a snack or a cool drink during the day. Frozen fruit is especially useful for getting a colder, thicker result without making things complicated. Start with the recipe as written, then adjust the consistency to suit whether you prefer something easy to drink or thick enough for a spoon.

Getting the texture just right

For a thicker smoothie, start with frozen fruit and add liquid gradually rather than pouring everything in at once. A little yoghurt can add body, while banana gives a naturally creamy texture. If the mixture becomes too thick for the blender, loosen it with a small splash of milk or another suitable liquid and blend again.

Smoothie bowls work best when they stay thick enough to hold toppings rather than turning into a drink. For more ideas for the first meal of the day, have a look through our Breakfast Recipes.
