
British Ginger Cake Recipe – Moist, Sticky & Easy
A moist, sticky British ginger cake with warm spices and a rich flavour, perfect with a cup of tea!

- 20cm square cake tin
- Baking parchment
- Medium saucepan
- Large mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Silicone spatula or large spoon
- Kitchen scales
- Measuring jug
- Measuring spoons
- Wire cooling rack
- Skewer or thin knife for checking doneness

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C / 160°C fan. Line a 20cm square tin. Mix flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, cinnamon, mixed spice and salt.
- Melt butter, muscovado sugar, golden syrup and treacle in a saucepan over gentle heat. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in milk. Let cool slightly before adding eggs.
- Pour syrup mixture into dry ingredients and whisk. Beat in eggs until combined into a smooth, pourable batter.
- Pour into tin and bake 35–40 minutes at 180°C / 160°C fan, until set and a skewer comes out clean.
- Cool in the tin for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Cool fully before slicing.
